Downtown Diner

The Downtown Diner is the cutest place ever! On the staff shirts it says they treat every customer like family and that couldn’t be any closer to the truth! The workers were super friendly and you could tell that this place holds a lot of memories. The Carmel rolls were Devine, I would recommend! Anytime you are in Alex, I would definitely say to stop in here!

Stopped at 1:00 pm for dinner. We were met by a warm welcoming hello. Waitress gave us menus, took our drink orders. Our drinks were served and order taken. The wait was short. I had their meatball dinner and my wife had chicken. Both were very good. We also order 1 bread pudding which we shared. It was huge and very good. A great place to eat. Highly recommend.

This place is a gem! The staff are all super nice and attentive! They work with a smile on their faces and strive to make everyone, even those of us that are just "passing through" feel like regulars and family. They kept our coffee cups filled and even gave my son his own cup after he kept stealing mine. The food was phenomenal! It tasted like my childhood memories of the small town diner I used to go to with my family that has long since closed. This place will now become a regular stop whenever we are in the area. Definitely recommend!!!

Oh my goodness! I love this place. It's cute and quaint on the inside. The decor is from the 50s and 60s. There was like 8- 10 tables. The servers were super nice and friendly. Helpful too. They gave us names of places to go thrift shopping. The food was soooo good, exactly what we expected at a mom/pop restaurant. Definitely was comfortable food. If you're ever in Alexandria, MN, eat here, it's worth it.

We were up in Alexandria at a wedding and as we were leaving town we decided to try the Downtown Cafe. The service we good, our coffee cups were kept full even though the place was very busy. Our meals were very good, a couple of us tried the specials and weren't disappointed. It was a good value for the money. Give it a try.

This place was amazing! Super friendly and speedy service, very quiet and comfortable, amazing price too! They accommodated to my very quirky palate and made me a custom cheeseburger. Very pleased.

Super cute little diner with a large selection of breakfast and lunch options. I selected the special of the day which was a hamburger steak and eggs with hash browns. I also ordered a cinnamon roll that was AMAZING.

Don't let the size of this place fool you, it isn't the size of the building that makes the restaurant, it is the people who operate it that makes the restaurant. If you are looking for a truly authentic mom & pop style homestyle cooking restaurant, this is the place for you. Everything from the pulled barbecue chicken sandwiches to the spaghetti to the hot beef sandwich to the many other menu items especially the breakfast menu items are amazingly awesome and the service makes you feel like you are right at home.
